Growing forward together
After 2 years of much missed absence the Open Day will return on Saturday 27th August 2022 at Craigend Farm, Auchenbowie, from 12-4 p.m., courtesy of Evelyn and Willie Crawford.
The theme this year will be ‘Growing Our Own’ and the emphasis will be on self-reliance and sustainability. This year there will be no talks but a varied number of stalls, a free BBQ, some music and a warm welcome to new residents of Carron Valley and District.
Admission is free and there are marquees, toilets and parking. Stalls will include crafts such as willow weaving, mosaics, and spinning, children’s activities, growing, soil and cultivation advice from such as Carron Growers, heritage and history of the Valley, e-bikes demo, and local produce.
A key stall this year will be Home Energy Scotland with advice on tackling the energy crisis with practical steps. As a community as dispersed as ours with no shops, church, or meeting hall this is a vital focus of community identity. We are also keen to promote involvement in the organisation of the Day.
We can do with some help the day before in setting up and afterwards in clearing up. We also are open to have stalls from individual households that might for example have plants, cuttings etc, either for sale or in aid of a charity of choice, or crafts that could be demonstrated.
Please contact Evelyn Crawford if you want to be involved 07878 926783
