Apples!
Just a quick reminder of POMONA Apple Day on 3rd October. There will be a barbecue starting at 12noon and apple scratters and crushers to squeeze your fruit.
No need to peel or core apples but do cut out any brown places. If your apples are ripening early, you can wash them, cut them into quarters and freeze them until the day. Once they defrost, they actually give more juice, as some of the fibres will have broken down.
Don’t forget to bring CLEAN bottles to take your juice home, sterilised if you want to keep the juice longer.
Lynsey Payne, our apple expert will be there to give advice on apple varieties and any pests or diseases your apples may be suffering, and she may have some trees and fruit bushes to sell.
Stirling Fire Protection will be there. Bring along any fire extinguishers you have. They will be checked and one per resident will be serviced without charge. More than one to fix or replace? There will be a charge for any additional works.
